Team Building Meetings Boost Communications
One of my favorite roles is as facilitator for a team meeting. These sessions allow me to help bring groups together, whether they are in Cincinnati or anywhere in America. Team building meetings boost communications. They build relationships. And they help teams learn how to work together productively to get more accomplished.
And now for something completely different
This isn’t just another bagel and coffee gathering. Weeks before the meeting starts, each person who’s invited completes an assessment. That creates a report on their behavioral styles as well as their motivators. Those printed reports—along with much more information—are handed out at the team meeting.
My team uses those individual reports to create a team report. That’s a 70-page document that pulls together trends, tendencies and key takeaway points that resonate with everyone. We then take that information and create a custom PowerPoint to make presenting the information clear and impactful.
Emphasis on participation
Don’t worry, this isn’t a lecture or a speech. It’s an engaging four to six-hour team building exercise. Each person participates by sharing their individual information that resonates most powerfully. Whether it’s held in your office or at an offsite location, these meetings are perfect for groups from five to fifty.
The topics are unique, interesting and engaging. Teams get to know each other better in ways that are meaningful. They find out how they are similar and learn how to embrace the differences. And they are just as effective for teams that have been together for a while as they are for new teams with new managers.
The section on behaviors is always fun because people can see how others act. But the section on motivators always gets the biggest reaction. That’s because very few people understand the driving forces behind why they do what they do.
Team communications
One of the most important outcomes is improved communications. Once people know what makes someone else tick, they can communicate more effectively. Knowledge is power. And there’s a lot of energy injected into the group.
