The Best Decision You Can Make

Business leaders make decisions every day. Some are insignificant and quickly forgotten. Others could change the world. That’s why the best decision you can make is the one that changes how you make decisions. It helps in strategic planning, executive coaching and all aspects of running a successful organization. And it works whether you are in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kentucky, or Jacksonville, Florida.

Change

Congratulations if you’re in a leadership role. You’ve done some things right. Probably a lot of things. Most importantly, you’ve delivered results.

Here’s the challenge: the world has changed. It has gotten more complex. More competitive. Faster paced. Increasingly driven by new technology.

If you keep doing the same things that made you successful, at some point they quit working as effectively. Delivering results gets harder.

Re-examine how you make decisions

Which brings us to decision-making. Sometimes you can look at two options and make a good decision. If it were only that easy.

Having a proven process is a great start. We use our proprietary decision-making process with our clients. It is simple, memorable and works extremely well.

At the core are two principles. The first is you have to start with the Objective. What is it that you want to achieve? If you aren’t crystal clear on that, you can’t make the best decision.

The second key is who you include in the process. Leaders with strong teams can lean on that talent pool. But it only works if you reach out and include them.

Look for smart people who bring a new perspective. The world is changing. You want to hear from those who have explored the new frontier. Maybe they’ve seen something of interest. Or maybe they’ll say something that triggers another idea.

So, bring them in and engage them. Ask good open-ended questions. And most of all listen. You never will learn less by hearing new ideas.
